- HALLMARK HOLIDAY -
Christmas is upon us, it’s a time of year I don’t really like, Christmas itself is wonderful, I just don’t see why we need to be preparing for it in October.
This year though I’m trying to be full of that lovely festive spirit.
Part of my medication is bringing to you ‘Hallmark Holiday,’ a 4 track EP from 3 Flatpack affiliated artists and one band who happen to not only be fucking great. But also really damn friendly.
Tracklisting:
1. Polio - Paladin
2. Boxer - Hey, Hey, Honeybee
3. Apollo’s Arrows - Escobar
4. Living Tall In Dallas - Simple Things Lead To..
The only catch? You can only get these songs if you buy something from the store. Although I’m aware loads of you already have so expect an email soon.
The store will be having a sale soon too to mark Santa getting off his backside to do his annual trip RTW.
Until then give us a like on Facebook.
More news soon.
END OF YEAR ROUNDUP
2011 has been a good year for Flatpack.
Not much on the release fund due to the fact I moved house 3 times this year and also made the ‘big’ move to London to my first music industry job.
However:
Apollo’s Arrows released two EPs with us, the first has sold out and the second will very soon. Next year we look to do an album or extended EP in the late summer. All of which is very exciting
They sold out their EP launch back in January which was one of my favourite moments of the year, and also played the sellout Flatpack 1st birthday party back in May. The band made their first forays into London playing awesome shows at Hot Damn! & RoTa and also appeared on the airwaves with BBC Introducing and Roundhouse Radio.
Arguably the biggest Apollo’s Arrows moment of the year came when the band got on the bill for Bestival. Playing a Sunday night slot up against The Maccabees was an amazing moment, a years hard work culminating in one of the bands best shows to a tent full of friends and newcomers to the band.
Their Second EP Glass Vessels was released in November to a very good reception and from here we are going to build this mother until it bursts.
Polio came to me this year also like a bolt from the blue. Their bassist approached me drunk outside a nightclub in March this year with the roughest demo I’ve ever heard on his phone and I loved them straight away.
Their first effort, Pig Heart Boy, is a no bullshit-uncompromising 10 minutes of punk rock and it is, in my opinion, brilliant. They played with countless great bands this year; Brontide, Rosa Valle, Danananakroyd, Drawings and more of which I can’t remember just now, but next year for them is about more music and a bucket load of touring. On that note, the live show really is something else. Highlights include seeing them play the wedge, and blow the PA on their stage at Southsea Festival.
The Common went from strength to strength, recording more and more, and picking up new friends wherever they went. Culminating this year with a show at Southampton Guildhall supporting Zane Lowe. They hope to get their first physical release out early next year.
Boxer had a quiet year. Beavering away finishing Uni and recording more songs, 2012 is the year they will be introduced to the public! Flatpack will be releasing a debut EP from these guys as soon as it’s ready. I can’t wait.
On a personal level, I DJd to 2000 people at Koko, had a set at Glastonbury, moved towns, got my first ‘proper’ job, made a shedload of new and interesting friends, went to Wales, countless Festivals (they all rained) & generally just had a really fucking good time. I also did a range of tees to support the bands via Flatpack, called ‘Sunny’ tees I was generally amazed by the response and have sold close to 200 to date.
Apollo’s Arrows and Polio go out on tour in January also, flyer below. Would be radical if you could join us. Give me a shout and I’ll get the shots in.

I hope your year was great too, here’s to 2012.
Keep an eye out on this page on Christmas Day as I have a present for everyone!
Before I go, massive, massive thanks to:
James Cockburn, Sam Smith, Scott MacRae, ACDSleeve and Vino Sangre. Without those dudes I probably wouldn’t have done anything.
Also:
The Common, Boxer, Living Tall In Dallas, Cardinals, The Lion and the Wolf, Unit, Hamptons, Notting Hill Arts Club, Replay Denim Company, Tangled Talk & everyone who took the plunge and bought something.
